A sharp talent
Rachel signs her illustrations under the name Darkitty.
From a young age, the artist loved inventing stories and imagining scenes. Some people write them, while she draws them.
“I've had a passion for drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. As a child, I spent a lot of time drawing what I saw or imagined. I would invent stories and illustrate them, sometimes in comic book form, and this lasted until high school.”
After studying Fine Arts and a DESS in Applied Arts to " learn other techniques ", it was only logical that Rachel chose independence by working as a freelancer.
Darkitty is currently working on the new volume of the Famous Five comic book published by Hachette. While she enjoys working on large-scale projects like this one, she doesn't forget her other clients. For a yoga teacher, a novelist, and a comedian, her projects are varied. And that's precisely what she loves about her work: " I appreciate the diversity of the projects, the enriching exchanges I have with my clients during the creative process ."
Once she's had a chat with them, the artist retreats into her creative world. The program includes tea, reading, and working with music or listening to podcasts.
“ After thinking about a scene and coming up with ideas, I do some research (cut of a garment, posture) and then I do my sketches, either on paper in a notebook, or directly on a tablet with a stylus and the Procreate app. An illustration can take me several hours or several days, depending on the level of detail .”
Darkitty draws inspiration from everything around her: fashion, cinema, stories, and nature. In fact, she recharges her batteries at the Jardin des Plantes between projects.
Darkitty and Kza: 16 seasons of collaboration!
This summer 2021, Kza and Darkitty are celebrating their sixteenth season of collaboration!
Carine was looking for an illustrator when she discovered Darkitty's world on social media. The creator of Kza immediately embraced Rachel's creations and her
Personality: “ Beyond her talent and her pencil drawing, which I really like, Rachel is a good listener and has a synthetic mind that allows her to grasp my creations. She
Interpret, merge ideas and transform it all into illustration! ”
Darkitty knows how to convey emotions to illustrate a collection. The scenes she draws are scenes you can experience with your family while comfortably wearing your Kza outfits.
Each season, the creative process between the two women is the same: " Carine starts by sending me an email with her ideas for the atmosphere and her photos, then we meet for a drink where we discuss the different outfits of the characters, the accessories and other decorative elements. I take photos of the clothes, cuts and patterns, which I will then design. "
This year, for the 16 seasons of the collaboration, the illustration features the characters of Kza... by the sea! For a summer day that lasts until the end of the night... The artist wanted us to find the Kza woman , " elegant and relaxed ".
This collaboration also continues because Rachel has captured the very essence of Kza. " It's a committed brand, attentive to the desires and needs of today's women. It's aimed at girls and women, with no age limits. I can easily imagine a Kza piece that could be worn by a teenager, her mother, and her grandmother. "
